Scouts Canoe Camp – Sept 2012

Scouts Canoe Camp – Sept 2012

On Saturday morning at 6:30am 8 scouts and 10 parents/leaders met at the 1st Caringbah Scout hall. We organised cars and then were off on our journey to Berowra Waters. After launching the canoes we paddled up river for 1-2 hours until we r
eached Camp Windeyer. On the way there was some lovely scenery, steep cliffs of the gourge with mostly mangroves around the shore. We also saw plenty of fish jumping out of the water but still Rakali could’nt catch one for dinner! At camp we found a row of macadamia trees which sent us searching around for the nuts! We found a couple of handfuls of nuts and had to crack them open with a rock! They were delicious. We set up camp and had lunch. While our sausages were cooking a kookaburra came and stole one. This Kookaburra (named Fredrick by Jared) was so tame that you could pat it! After this we went on a vicious bush walk but it was more like a rock climb. Thanks Rakarli!!! Then we went back to camp and had dinner. We made a great fire and all the kids played cards and the leaders sat by the fire until bed time. On Sunday we woke up and had bacon and eggs for breakfast. After breakfast many of us went on a short canoe. When we got back we packed up and had lunch. Next we went and did an obstacle course. I am sure many of us have bruises from that! Then we got into our canoes and came home. It was a great weekend, Thanks Wallaroo. – Amber, Scout
