Scouterer Camp Jun 2011

In June of this year a group of 20 Scouts, Venturers and Leaders from 1st Caringbah headed out to Bungonia this weekend to join other Scouts and Venturers from the South Metropolitan Region for the annual Scouterer Camp. This camp is intended to introduce Senior Scouts to Venturers and show them what an awesome time can be had. They spend the weekend caving, abseiling and hanging out in camp having fun.

Scout Region Gathering – Jun 11

65 1st Caringbah Scouts, Venturers, Cubs, Joeys and Leaders enjoyed an excellent weekend at the Region Gathering in Cataract this June long weekend.  Youth members enjoyed many activities over the weekend with the highlights being rolling down a hill in a barrel, the flying fox, abseiling, rock climbing, chillaxing, campfires and of course, lots of socialising.  As always on this camp, it rained, but hey that didn’t dampen our spirits.  Thanks go to Kooka for co-ordinating this camp and Bridget/Emma/Rebecca who catered for everyone. Bravo to the Venturer Scouts who did many hours on traffic duty and safely guiding youth members up and down the rock wall.

Venturer Scout Backyard Blitz – Jun 11

Twenty 1st Caringbah Venturer Scouts and 4 leaders pitched up at a Caringbah ladies house to Blitz her Backyard armed with spades, hoes, rakes, secateurs, muscle and enthusiasm. Sadly the owner of the house has been very ill recently and therefore unable to keep control of the weeds and the yard in general. Horticultural expert Geck did safety preparation and co-ordination – thanks Geck. The yard was cleared up very well 40 man hours of work going into it in the evening. 7 green bins were packed with weeds and unwanted foliage at the end. We wrapped up with soda and chips after a job well done. BRAVO to the Venturers Scouts for turning up to this community service night in such good numbers.

Venturer Scout Clay Target Shooting – Jun 11

1st Caringbah Venturer Scouts, some parents and the leaders headed down to the Marconi Clay Pigeon Shooting Club to try their hands at shooting clay pigeons and what a blast we had.  After some technique and safety training we were placed on the traps in groups of 4 and then given the opportunity to shoot 25 shot gun cartridges.  It was a real buzz when we managed to hit the clays (Dunc can vouch for that when he hit one on his first go).  All Venturers shot well with Nathan and Jess Ju being the best Venturer shots with 12 out of 25 followed closely by Jake and Cam B.  Another fun experience thanks to Scouting.
