Venturer Scout Unit Photo – May 11

On the red shield collection night, we decided to take a pic of the unit members for our files.  We were missing 10 of our members so we’ll have to do it again!  The Venturers got very wet collecting during the downpour and then chillaxed by seeing if they could break the bubble gum blowing world record of 58cm – alas they didn’t!

Venturer Scout Initiative Course – May 11

Chris Mo, Duncan, Nathan and Jess headed up the Blue Mountains to enjoy a weekend hiking and being taught initiative and leadership techniques.  This was the same weekend as the Jamboree on the Trail weekend so yes they indirectly participated in that too!

Venturer Scout Bike Ride – May 11

The Aim of Scouting is to encourage the physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual development of young people so that they take a constructive place in society as a member of their local, national and international community.

And tonight the Venturers focussed on “physical” with another bike ride, this time from Caringbah to Brighton and back taken at a leisurely pace and included stopping for an ice cream and acrobatics on the beach before heading back home. Well done to Matt for planning and leading this so well with significant consideration for safety.

Medallion Project – Car Wash – May 11

As part of his Scout Medallion Project, Jake J led the organisation and delegation of a fundraiser for the group and Venturer Scouts going to NZ and Tassie Venture Camps.  His summary is below:

Hi Scouts, Venturer Scouts and Leaders,

Thanks all for coming to the car wash on Sunday, we raised $1350.90.  It was a great day with a lot of helpers turning up, and cars never ceased coming in to be cleaned and washed.

Big thanks go to all the scouts/Venturer scouts for washing all days distributing all the 700 flyers in the local houses, and bringing all the equipment. I hope you all enjoyed the cakes left over at the end!

Also I appreciate the local community coming and helping by bringing cars to be washed, all day long.

Special thanks to Baggy, Dingo and Kooka, for helping me whenever I asked them to.

Thanks

Venturer Scouts Trampolining – May 11

The Aim of Scouting is “The Aim of Scouting is to encourage the physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual development of young people so that they take a constructive place in society as a member of their local, national and international community.”

Tonight 1st Caringbah Venturers focussed on the “physical” and headed to the Miranda RSL Youth Club (next to the cenotaph) to enjoy some trampolining under the expert tutelage of NSW state coaches. It was an absolute ball with the Venturers being taught all kinds of spins and jumps whilst getting some good height; much more fun than the family trampoline at home. Thanks go to Jake M for organising the night and the coaches of Miranda RSL Youth Club for putting the night on for us.

Venturers Vietnamese Culture Night – Apr 11

Venturer Scout Vivien organised this Culture Night teaching the Venturers about her parents homeland of Vietnam and then testing them with a quiz before introducing them to some fun games and Vietnamese/Cambodian food presented as a food tasting challenge.  If Bear Grylis can eat all kinds of wild things then we can too, its MIND over MATTER.

The point of the night was to educate ourselves about Vietnam and expand our own horizons by introducing foods that would be eaten regularly by us if we were born outside Australia.  Lastly it was about seeing if we were able to overcome our own fears by trying something that did not look or smell good!  It’s healthy to try new things and be open to the way other countries and cultures do things.
