Scouts – NSW Scout Rally 2009

What an incredible experience this weekend was.  1st Caringbah Scouts made history in many ways this weekend. 27 Scouts and 7 of our leaders headed to Camp Cataract to enjoy the biggest competition camp of the year – State Rally.  And in the words of the organiser “We had a few years where 1st Austinmer dominated the Rally and now it’s 1st Caringbah’s turn”!

We are happy to report that all our scouts had fun, learned a lot and most importantly did their best.  Their best delivered exceptional results.  Speedy Turtles (Jess J (PL), Bridget (APL), Kathryn, Aaron and Thomas) managed to beat 188 other patrols and defend their title by winning the whole competition for a second successive year and with the highest score on record for the history of the competition (it’s run for over 20 years). Even more amazing, 1st Caringbah also came second with Exorbitantly Emulous (Nathan (PL), Vivien (APL), Darcie, Robert and Jake J) only 24 points behind.  And to top it all, Nathan went on to win best PL in NSW for 2009 beating over 950 scouts, again with the highest score on record!  Worthy of mention is the fact that Jess came second (only 6pts behind) and had it been in any other year, she would have won Best PL of NSW too – we set the standards high at 1st Caringbah!  This is the first time a South Metropolitan Scout has won this trophy, (let alone 1st Caringbah) since records began in 1993 – BRAVO Nath.   History has been made.

20th – Sonik’s Hedgehogs (Lizards/Scorpians) – Sonik (PL), Kara (APL), Kiel, Ryan, Trish and Holly

34th – Team Tomatoes (Red Backs)                   – Duncan (PL), Jake M(APL), Alex, Emily, Eleanor

77th – Quiet Achieving Quokka’s                      – Cam B (PL), Jordan (APL), Mitch and Tim

All 1st Caringbah patrols were in the top 40%.  These successes were achieved by working as a team – well done ALL scouts, especially the PL’s (Sonik, Duncan, Cam B, Jess, Alex and Nathan) who did so much preparation, we are very proud of your effort and achievements.  Finally, I would like to thank all the scout leaders and parent helpers who helped train our troop for this event and gave up their weekend to man the excellent activities and photograph the event.

SCOUTS, enjoy and celebrate this success, you/we have earned it but remember to be humble (no goading other troops), we still have a lot of learning to do and FUN to have.  Let’s work to do even better in 2010!
